This trains students at a young age to be computer literate, a skill very important in this day and age.

Improving one's computer skills is definitely a good reason to own your own computer but there are other reasons. Computers also make doing assignments easier and enhance the quality of the student's work. Students can conduct better research for assignments, and present their ideas in a clear way. In my own classes students use computers to do online homework assignments, slide show presentations, essay writing, and video editing. Much of the work is done in the classroom but often students have to work on projects outside the classroom. Although students have the opportunity to use computers inside the classroom or in the computer rooms between classes many students prefer to do their homework or project assignments at home. This is the good thing about having your own computer - it's very convenient. In addition, a lot of students have part-time jobs and cannot always use the Sapporo University computers. Having your own computer solves this problem.
パソコンを持つと、コンピュータスキルが向上することは勿論ですが、自宅で課題等に取り組めるので、学習能力の向上にも役立ちます。情報収集や考えをまとめたり。私の学生達は、オンラインの課題、プレゼンテーション作成、エッセイライティング、ビデオ編集など、様々なことにコンピュータを利用しています。これは講義時間外に及ぶことも多いのですが、自宅で課題などに取り組むのを好む学生も多くいます。もちろん大学のコンピュータも使えますが、自分のパソコンを持てば、いつでも好きなときにそれができるというわけです。
In conclusion, not only does having your own computer make doing assignments and projects more convenient, it also trains students to be computer literate, a skill very important in today's "computer age".
